Neuralink is going to be eugenics by the way.

It's focused on "curing" disabled people.

There are implants that work for some. But he is expicitly trying to "solve" autism and schizophrenia. He does not want disabled people to exist.

Musk is not a friend to disabled people or animals.

It is going to be eugenics and marketed as cures for disabled people.

I want to expand a little bit:

It is eugenics if it works, and if it does not work.

As it stands, so many animals did not survive animal testing. It is nowhere near ready to be used on people. The FDA fucked up big time and people will probably die, especially those that doctors do not give a shit about and are getting desperate for help. It's not going to be just cryptobros and Elon's bootlickers.

You want to know how I know?

If it wasn't done by Elon Musk, I may have considered it for my photosensitivity. The website for the company has no mention of Elon. Neither does their twitter. LinkedIn might have it, but this is important to know because of his direction with Twitter and Spacex (Remember? Rocket fucking exploded?). People will be put off by his name being associated, and they know that.

Let's say it worked by a miracle, for argument's sake.

Disabled people would be pressured to get a surgery they may not even want. It will be sold as a "cure" for any disability. Anyone who rejects it will be seen as wanting to be disabled.

It can be taken advantage of really easily. Shit goes wrong in IT all the time. I work on an IT helpdesk for a huge company for fuck's sake. Who is going to afford the chips? Who can they be serviced by? It's another bid for a monopoly from Musk because I will promise you that they will come out of it like Apple with intentionally hostile design. You are handing control of the most crucial organ in your body to a company- and even that organ is not fully understood and can unexpected things happen. There's no fucking IT helpdesk for brains.

Do not get it. Discourage anyone from getting it. Encourage people to look into self-advocacy or self-diagnosis to keep anyone from this quack doctor.

DISABLED PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS LAB RATS FOR ABLE BODIED PEOPLE.

He's looking to push this on disabled people first because they often have less autonomy and money to fight back.

They want this stuff to be marketable in humans across the board

Cause this is what they're saying now:

But this is what they really want:

image

They want a super chip that will be the next major jump in tech.

They will make billions and get free lab rats by preying on those desperate enough to get this.

Enough disabled people have died in the name of science and medicine already. Don't disrespect them by not taking their lives as a warning.

This is absolutely eugenics.

male gaze is not 'when person look sexy' or 'when misogynist make film'

death of the author is not 'miku wrote this'

I don't think you have to read either essay to grasp the basic concepts

death of the author means that once a work is complete, what the author believes it to mean is irrelevant to critical analysis of what's in the text. it means when analysing the meaning of a text you prioritise reader interpretation above author intention, and that an interpretation can hold valid meaning even if it's utterly unintentional on the part of the person who created the thing. it doesn't mean 'i can ignore that the person who made this is a bigot' - it may in fact often mean 'this piece of art holds a lot of bigoted meanings that the author probably wasn't intentionally trying to convey but did anyway, and it's worth addressing that on its own terms regardless of whether the author recognises it's there.' it's important to understand because most artists are not consciously and vocally aware of all the possible meanings of their art, and because art is communal and interpretive. and because what somebody thinks they mean, what you think somebody means, and what a text is saying to you are three entirely different things and it's important to be able to tell the difference.

male gaze is a cinematographic theory on how films construct subjectivity (ie who you identify with and who you look at). it argues that film language assumes that the watcher is a (cis straight white hegemonically normative) man, and treats men as relatable subjects and women as unknowable objects - men as people with interior lives and women as things to be looked at or interacted with but not related to. this includes sexual objectification and voyeurism, but it doesn't mean 'finding a lady sexy' or 'looking with a sexual lens', it means the ways in which visual languages strip women of interiority and encourage us to understand only men as relatable people. it's important to understand this because not all related gaze theories are sexual in nature and if you can't get a grip on male gaze beyond 'sexual imagery', you're really going to struggle with concepts of white or abled or cis subjectivities.

:whispers: also Death of the Author means you have to exercise self-criticism and recognise the bias YOU as the audience bring to interpreting a piece of work. Yes, your reading is valid. But to what extent are you extrapolating from your own experiences, privileges & lacks of privilege, past traumas, etc.? How might this affect your interpretation of the text?

More people need to understand that part, too.

no idea whats happening with artfight (kind of? i know a bit but… its given me a headache so im ignoring it) but i am just

going to go back to animating this revenge

something is up with artfight?

tl;dr staff mass quit bc they were not paid

what the fuck?

QUICK CORRECTION-

the mods are volunteers, they weren’t paid nor did they ask for pay

what they’re upset about is that Takaia is pocketing all the donation money rather than using it to update and improve the site, plus a lack of communication on getting things done yet refusing to let more mods/staff pitch in, so they’re quitting as protest.

the moderators want the event to keep going for the sake of the participants, but ArtFight’s future is dubious unless Takaia cleans up their act.

so the tradition of af being down every year wouldn’t have been a tradition if it weren’t for irresponsible handling of funds…

An 8 page digital comic for Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, drawn in black pencil and colored in with a flat, watercolor texture. The comic is monochrome with scanned pieces of paper incorporated in the work. Lines of text are dispersed through the comic. Page 1: A white backgound. A pair of hands is typing on a keyboard. An IV is connected to the right hand. On the monitor, a snippet from Ways of Survival is visible, reading: "Yoo Joonghyuk stood before the vast, endless calamity pouncing on him and spoke, "Until I witness the end of the scenario, I shall never give up. That's why... You shouldn't give up, either." The text of the comic reads: "Live. Even if you must crawl your way out of the grave."ALT
Page 2: A white background. The text continues: "and even if you must burn every page of this book to keep you warm." A young Kim Dokja sits on his chair, his back facing the viewer. In front of him sits his mother, Lee Sookyung, in a prison uniform. Only part of her face is visible through a tinted screen. The rest of the screen is covered with pieces of paper, all including snippets about the characters of Ways of Survival.ALT
Page 3: A white background. A young Dokja types away at an old computer. Below him, an older Dokja is wearing business clothes and typing at a newer computer. Both are visible from a top-view, and only the tops of their heads and their arms are visible. They are positioned such that they're facing each other. Young Dokja has a blanket of paper on his shoulders, while older Dokja has a coat of paper hung on the chair behind him. Both pieces of paper include snippets from ORV. For young Dokja, it is about the characters of Ways of Survival. For older Dokja, it is about his guilt for reading this story. Between the two monitors the text of the comic reads: "You can consume us to sustain you through the winter and we will still be there when spring arrives."ALT
Page 4: A white background fades into black. A tree branch and leaves cover the top of the screen. The branch and leaves are all made of pieces of paper. Behind the leaves stands an older Dokja, wearing his white coat. He is looking at something with a horrified expression on his face. The background fades to black. At the bottom of the page, the outline of young Dokja is drawn in white pencil. He is hugging his knees to his chest and looking forward. In front of him stand the characters of Ways of Survival (Uriel, Hyunsung, Jihye, and Namwoon) drawn in a loose, sketchy style. They are all looking at him, and Uriel and Hyunsung are leaning over as if to speak to him. The text above these sketches reads: "The moment you love a story it becomes immortal,"ALT
Page 5: A black background. At the top of the page the text continues: "Neverending." The rest of the page is covered in a piece of paper with the top cut out to resemble grass. On top of the grass sits an older Dokja drawn in white pencil. He is on his hands and knees, sobbing while covering his face. Next to him, the figures of the Forgotten Ones (the Outer Gods) are shown as blob-like shapes cut out of paper. They are made of repeating texts, such as: "Kim Dokja" "Who are you" "You know us" and "Give me". One of the blobs is reaching out to the sobbing Dokja. The rest of the page is the scanned piece of paper. It is filled with snippets of the Forgotten Ones' memories. They are the last words the companions spoke to Joonghyuk in his past rounds. The text fades in opacity as you go down, and the contents become more and more scrambled. At the bottom, two words are bolded and outlined in pencil, representing the text of the comic: "Take it."ALT
Page 6: A black background. The scanned page from Page 5 is now zoomed out to be a square on the top half of the page, with some creases visible. Some words are circled in black pencil and shaded in, colored white on the black background. They read: "Take all of it". Below, the piece of paper is further zoomed out. It is folded into some sort of origami shape.ALT
Page 7: A black background. A continuation of page 6. The piece of paper is gradually zoomed out, folded further and further with a shape resembling a spiral at its center.ALT
Final page, page 8: A black background fades into white. At the bottom of this page the final product of the folding is shown: a paper rose. Dokja's hands are cupping the flower. The final line of text of the comic reads: "We don't mind." /END IDALT

[Story "One Who Is Loved By All" is continuing its storytelling.]

I think a big thing that people are overlooking is how Hobie looks out for his own and how much that coincides with punk culture.

Him looking out for younger teens is so fucking punk of him. He lets Gwen stay with him because she's vulnerable and struggling, he makes her a watch, he lets her keep his shoes, etc. and it's not out of romance, it's because she's family. Same with Miles; he knows Miles is naive and wants to help him, because he's been in the spider society longer and he knows what's really going on. He sees the adults, who are supposed to mentor them, targeting Miles and he just knows it's flat-out wrong and that he wants no part of it.

Hobie takes on such a big brother role for the other characters and I love it. He's more mature than the other teens in so many aspects, and he uses his experience to teach them how to get by because that's what being punk is about

trans women are so fucking hot. i luckily live in an area that has a lot of trans women and every time i meet a new gal it's like i'm seeing beauty for the first time all over again- the only times i've ever experienced breathtaking sapphic energy that stopped me in my tracks and made me want to beg for more was around other trans women!

tall girls with flat chests that wear cute blouses with frills and loose straps and have cute nails. girls with beards, with strong jaws, big arms and broad chests who wear dresses and never raise their voices. girls who wear their hair short, and flannels and rugged outdoorsey clothes and wanna take you fishing. alternative girls who live in t-shirts and jeans with cute fluffy hair and laugh that lifts your soul. catgirls, doggirls, furry girls, nerdy girls with anime merch and stuffies and pink everything. girls who haven't transitioned, girls who have, girls who do whatever- doesn't matter, trans girls are fucking angelic !

i took out about 18k of loans for an illustration degree at a time where i thought i could pay that off in five or ten years-- that i could make money as an artist, pay my rent, pay my bills, pay a couple hundred a month and whittle it down. if i got a job illustrating for a magazine or publisher, just a few of those jobs might clear by debt. lots of places had in-house illustrators then: lots of magazines, interior designers, videogame startups, magazines, even websites. it was possible. i was promised if i worked hard to add college skills to my native talent, it was guaranteed.

i never made it. the economy crashed halfway through my degree. it never recovered. studios fired artists by the thousands and hired them on as freelancers. the housing market crashed and bounced and mutated. rent was insane. the minim wage didn't twitch. but the interest on those unpayable loans went up, and up, and up.

ive paid a couple thousand back, bit by bit. but now i owe 42,000 dollars. there's no reason for it. my lenders just made those numbers up and no one stopped them. i borrowed 18 and payed back maybe 5. no one is losing 42,000 dollars if biden clears that debt tomorrow. my debt's already been sold a few times anyway. that means even the original lender shrugged off the loss.

so yeah, i want the government to bail me out. they bailed out all the banks that fucked the economy before i ever grew up. they bailed out all the corporations who starved their workers of fair pay and steady careers for decade after hungry decade. they sure as fuck bailed out every landlord who gouged 90% of my paycheck out plus my security deposit plus pet rent for the privilege of a shitty little box with plastic carpets and leaking roofs.

all these great big men who have unrepentantly fucked up the economy bigtime has gotten to laugh it off and then chug down a firehose of taxpayer funded absolution. i want the 12,000 that my original lender already traded away, that i paid for a broken dream, to be so easily dismissed. i deserve that. we all do.
